OPTIMA 5X (Heavy-duty lifting sling)

High Performance Synthetic Fiber Grommet Sling

Product: OPTIMA 5X (Heavy-duty lifting sling)

Diameter: 12mm-124mm

Structure: 12-Strand

(Core/Cover): UHMWPE / Polyester

Standard: BS EN1492-2:2000

Optima is made of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber and is the highest strength synthetic fiber rope available made by ROPERS. The Optima series lifting sling are used to replace wire ropes and are suitable for any onshore and offshore lifting operation.

Optima 5X is a grommet sling made of optima series ropes, with very high strength and low elongation. As an alternative to the traditional wire rope, it can more easily cope with challenging lifting situations.

Optima 5X Grommet Sling is encased in an abrasion resistant braided sleeve to protect potential friction areas from abrasion, cutting, or snagging. Two unique movable abrasion resistant coating sheaths provide additional protection for different contact parts.

Feature:
  • Multi purpose of hoisting design
  • High strength and light weight, operate flexibly
  • Easy to handle and install, less labor intensive
  • Multiple wear-resistant protection and durable
  • Soft and burr-free, and would not damage the object
  • Corrosion resistant, safer and lower maintenance cost

Application:
  • Heavy lifting

Specification:

Vertical Lift rating to BS EN1492-2:2000.

The product complies with both BSEN and ASME standards. Minimum Breaking Load (MBL) is determined using spliced test sample.

Do you have knowledge of UHMWPE ropes?

Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), also known as high-modulus polyethylene, (HMPE), is a very tough material, the third largest high-performance fiber just after aramid fiber and carbon fiber. It is made up of extremely long chains of polyethylene with a molecular mass usually between 3.5 and 7.5 million, which all align in the same direction. It can be said that the fiber form of HMPE is closest to the ideal form of high-strength fibers, and this structure provides maximum strength and stiffness.

HMPE ropes have become the optimal solution for many applications due to their excellent performance. Mooring ropes made from HMPE exhibit numerous outstanding characteristics:

  • High strength and light weight
  • Flexible handling
  • Floats in water
  • High resistance to impact
  • Resistant to most chemicals
  • Resistance to salt spray corrosion
  • High tension and bending fatigue resistance

Why choose HMPE lifting slings.

Nowadays, the lifting loads have increased, working conditions have become more complex, and the construction plans have become more challenging. In comparison to traditional wire or polyester lifting slings, HMPE lifting and hoisting solutions have remarkable advantages in terms of strength, weight, handling, and storage efficiency. The high-performance sling made from HMPE possess several characteristics, such as high strength, light weight, fatigue resistance, low-temperature durability, and many more. Over the past decade, synthetic high-performance sling have emerged as critical lifting components to replace steel wires.

HMPE lifting slings are highly durable and provide a safer lifting solution. Compared to steel wire ropes:

  • Under the same strength, the weight of HMPE rope is only 1 / 8 of that of steel wire rope
  • Corrosion resistance and aging resistance, no lubrication is required during use
  • Lower overall costs
  • Easy to inspect and maintain.
  • Easy to splice
  • Better fatigue strength and long service life
  • Higher safety factor

Effective working length

Effective working length refers to the actual length of the sling after experiencing elastic elongation under the working load. Accurate effective working length is crucial for construction purposes.

The rupture elongation rate of HMPE fiber is approximately 3-4%, which is similar to steel wire. However, the elongation rate of braided HMPE high-performance slings under load may be slightly higher, as it includes the structural elongation of the sling, which is a comprehensive result of the alignment and compaction of the fibers and strands in the rope.

The Optima series lifting slings adopt a unique heat-stretching system in the manufacturing process and undergo pre-stretching. This means that we have essentially eliminated the structural elongation of the sling during use, resulting in a more accurate effective working length.
